Yuba Lake — Wide Open Water 30 Minutes from Nephi, Utah.
A Utah State Park reservoir about 30 minutes north of Nephi via Highway 28 — wide water, wide sky, and a level of quiet that's genuinely hard to find anymore.
We drove out to Yuba Lake this week just to see what it actually looked like.
We weren't ready for how open it felt. Wide water, wide sky, almost no one around. The kind of quiet that's genuinely hard to find anymore — and it's only about 30 minutes from home.
This guide covers what Yuba Lake actually is, what you need to know before you go, and why it's part of the honest picture of what living in Juab County looks like.
Conditions, access, rules, and water quality can vary. Residents and visitors should check current city, county, or state park updates before swimming, boating, fishing, or any water contact.
The place itself
What is Yuba Lake?
Yuba Lake is a reservoir and Utah State Park located along Highway 28, approximately 30 minutes north of Nephi in Juab County. It's formed by the Sevier River and sits in open high-desert terrain, with wide unobstructed views of sky and water that feel notably different from the more enclosed mountain-lake settings most Utahns picture.
The park is managed as a Utah State Park, which means day use fees apply and there are designated facilities for boating, camping, and day use. None of it feels overbuilt. The infrastructure is there when you want it, and disappears when you don't.
The setting is open and uncrowded compared to many of the more heavily trafficked reservoirs along the Wasatch Front — a genuine draw for families looking for outdoor space without the crowds.
Local Realtor Note
"We scouted Yuba Lake this week just to see it for ourselves. The openness caught us off guard — wide water, wide sky, and barely anyone else out there."

Out there
What you'll actually do there.
On the water.
Yuba Lake is popular for boating, water skiing, and paddle boarding. The open reservoir gives plenty of room for multiple boats without feeling crowded — you can find your own piece of water without working for it.
From the shore.
Fishing is a common draw, along with simple shoreline activities like picnicking and letting younger kids splash at the water's edge in shallower areas. It's a good place to take a chair and a sandwich and not really have a plan.
Just being there.
Even without getting in the water, the open sky and mountain views make Yuba Lake worth the drive. It's the kind of place that works for a quick evening visit or a full day depending on what you're looking for.
"We didn't even get in the water this time and it was still worth the drive. Sometimes the best part of this job is the excuse to go find places like this."
— Dana Hoyt

"This is the part of Central Utah that doesn't show up in a listing. But it's real — and it's part of why families end up choosing this area over somewhere else."
